Can my dog be put to sleep in the garden?
Yes, where appropriate. If your dog’s favourite place is outside and circumstances allow it, the appointment can take place there.
Please note that if your garden is not cat-proofed I am not comfortable giving cats the sedation in their garden as even very weak cats can sometimes surprise us and if a cat ran off after receiving the sedative they would be very vulnerable in the wild so all cats must receive a sedation either indoors or in a cat-proofed garden.
Can my other pets be present?
Yes. Other pets can usually remain nearby if you feel this is appropriate.
Some families also choose to allow another pet to see or smell their companion afterwards.
Can my children be present?
Yes. Whether children are present is entirely your decision as a family. Some parents feel that being able to say goodbye is important while others prefer their children not to be present for the euthanasia itself.
What happens to my pet afterwards?
You can make your own arrangements or The Loving Vet can arrange aftercare for you, including private or communal cremation.
Can I have my pet’s ashes returned?
Yes. If you choose private cremation your pet’s ashes can be returned to your address for a surcharge or you can collect your pets ashes from the crematorium and there is no surcharge for this.
